Förnimmelser

XKatedral 7 oct 2023

The Swedish word förnimmelser translates to mean both sensations and perceptions. In the context of Lo Kristensons debut full-length album on XKatedral, the word signifies the perception of other beings. The music on Förnimmelser consists of eight pieces in two categories, with the core compositions denoted by Roman numerals I-V. Inserted between these are pieces called mellanrum 1-3. mellanrum translates to a space in between. Consequently, these pieces use tension-filled silence punctuated by sparse activity to insert a space between the rest of the music.

On "Dissolving Strawberry" (2020)

Irrlicht August 23, 2025

“On ‘Dissolving Strawberry’ (2020)” is a collection of interpretive sound compositions thematically centered around the titular painting by Swedish artist Christine Ödlund.

“Dissolving Strawberry” (2020) portrays an ongoing decomposition process through several parallel perspectives, or planes – molecular and cosmic, as well as symbolic – by means of color pigments produced from the strawberry plant itself. Transfer of knowledge and exchange of meaning between plant and animal world is a constant in the work of Christine Ödlund, as are concepts such as transmission, translation and interpretation.

In resonance, composers Joachim Nordwall, Klara Lewis, Sonja Tofik and Lo Kristenson all draw on Ödlund’s piece as graphic notation, or graphic score, turning “On ‘Dissolving Strawberry’ (2020)” into a collective exploration of the sounding dimensions of Ödlund’s visual work. The result is four highly individual and personal sound art interpretations ranging from organic waves of processed field recordings and fractured woodwinds to distorted electronics and analogue drone stasis.

DEMIURGE

Dacapo Records 10 febr 2023

For Damkapellet, music is not individual. The collective is challenging the patriarchal structures, traditions and hierarchies of classical music ensembles by exploring new ways of working in an open space with mutual curiosity and trust. The works on the album are written by four female composers, Randi Pontoppidan and Kirstine Lindemann also being members of Damkapellet. Greta Eacottis a British-Swedish composer based in Denmark, writing music which is both playful and refined, agitating and welcoming, sensual and synthetic. Lo Kristenson is a Swedish composer who creates music where expressions of resistance, harshness and clumsiness co-exist with fragile delicacy and vulnerability.

Damkapellet

Damkapellet is a music collective formed in 2016 to bring diversity to the Danish music scene by highlighting and performing music by artists who define themselves as women, non-binary or transgender. Demiurge, the collective’s debut album, presents Damkapellet’s unique approach to music-making with a carefully assorted programme that treads gentle lyricism and bold creative outbursts in equal measures.

footprint records sept 2021
